Dr Oya Gumuskaya is a senior lecturer at the Western Sydney University, School of Nursing and Midwifery. Oya completed a master’s and a PhD in Surgical Nursing while developing her career from clinical experience to research and education in Australia and Turkiye, collaborating internationally in research, education, and nursing leadership. Having gained experience in cardiovascular surgery, from the theatre to intensive care, she studied perioperative communication, patient experience and safety, reduced fasting, and prevention of postoperative complications. Her passion for perioperative care excellence drove her research focus to implementation science and de-implementing unwarranted practices.
