Professor Marcus Watson is a cognitive systems engineer. Currently serving as Enterprise Senior Fellow for MedTech at the University of Melbourne Graeme Clark Institute and Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland, he bridges the gap between psychological theory, design and clinical practice. Professor Watson is recognized for developing the Queensland Health’s Clinical Skills Development Service, transforming it into one of the most expansive simulation-based healthcare training networks. His work focuses on how clinicians interact with complex systems, utilizing high-fidelity simulation to improve decision-making and patient safety. By applying principles from aviation and defence to the medical field, he works with healthcare professionals to improve safety and efficiency. As a former Chair of Simulation Australasia, Professor Watson has been committed to advancing simulation pedagogy. His focus on evidence-based education ensures that medical technology and training protocols are optimized for the cognitive demands of modern, high-pressure, and global healthcare environments.
